A.C. Schindel Library

  • Horizon’s A.C. Schindel Library holds 20,000 volumes and receives 31 periodicals. Areas of concentration include Reformation theology (particularly the writings of John Wesley),  and the theology, history, and tradition of Pentecostalism.

In September 2010 the A.C. Schindel Library joined Saskatoon Theological Union library system.  The consortium, housing the collections of the local Pentecostal, Lutheran, Anglican, and United Church seminaries, now holds roughly 120,000 volumes, making ours one of the largest theological collections in the country.

Current Horizon students and faculty also have access to the University of Saskatchewan’s collection and Inter-Library Loan service.

In 1991, Horizon’s library was named the A.C. Schindel Library in honour of the Rev. Alvin C. Schindel (1922-2006) in recognition of 35 years of faithful leadership and ministry in this college. Originally the library was dedicated in honour of the late James Eustace  Purdie (1880-1977) who was the principal of Western Bible College in Winnipeg, Manitoba from 1925-1950.  Western Bible College amalgamated with Central Pentecostal College  in 1950, which changed its name to Horizon in the fall of 2007.
